WTF!
WTF moment? No, that does not stand for what everyone might think. It actually means "What the Future" and it focuses on what we should do if some obstacles pop up along our healthcare journey. Life is very unexpected and things like relationships, kids, responsibilities, and work can get in the way or delay our future. It is always great to plan for things like this and that is what Uncle Al taught us. He also told us that we can always count on him if the obstacles to affect us. And I trust that so much. I know certainly that if I need a helping hand at the most random time, he will be there. It feels amazing to have such a great support system at Medex.
Next, we worked with Dr. Epright for our debate. We met up with our teams to discuss our topic and my group specifically is working on the pro aspect of scare resources. Although it is hard to agree with the topic that we are given, it is also very interesting to see how hard we can fight and grab information on it in order to support it. We found evidence to defend our topic such as:
- This is when there are extremely scarce resources
Have to favor one group over another
We have to bring the people who have less access up to the people who have had access
Our end goal is what Group 2B is arguing
Financial: inequality is more expensive for everyone
Goal of healthcare is to save lives; equity healthcare saves more lives of underserved communities (and total lives) who are more likely to be sick or die anyways
If we don't attack equity issues first, inequality will always exist
Our ultimate goal is to distribute equally, but until there is a policy that favors equity and benefits people with less access, there will always be inequality
We cant assume equality
After lunch, we were able to work on our personal statement for a it. I am starting from scratch and I keep building onto my statement. Anne, my M2 mentor, as been a great help in this process! She took the time to meet with me after MedEx hours. We met up at "Ding Tea" a really good bubble tea place in the Haywood plaza. I got taro milk bubble tea and it was delicious. During this time, Anne helped me gather some thoughts onto paper for me to help build my personal statement. She aided in really drawing meaningful experiences out of my thoughts.
