Ethics by Dr. Epright
Today was considered our virtual day. We started the day in person and then shifted online. We met in the Auditorium in the Nursing Building which was outstanding. It was very nicely set up and equipped. We started out the morning with a virtual lecture from the Columbia Admissions. Their team let us know what stands out to them, what their average GPA and MCAT scores look like and how we could better our application.
We were then introduced to Dr. Epright. Dr. Epright is a Professor of Philosophy at Furman University and a Clinical Professor of Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Off the bat, it was very clear how seriously she took the role of ethics. She took the time out of her lecture to get to know us. We all went around the classroom introducing ourselves, our major, college, and our pets. That really showed me how interested she is in getting to know us. After this time, Dr. Epright introduced us to the Great Collaboration. For this assignment, we will be assigned a side to a prompt and we would have to find ways to support it. Throughout the weeks, we will be able to research our prompt, talk with our group, and even be able to chat with Dr. Epright about insight into the topic. I am excited to see what my group will be assigned.
After lunch we were able to go home and spend the rest of the lectures virtually. From 2-3pm we were able to be exposed to a lecture about Disability and Diagnosis by Hannah Anderson. It really opened my eyes to how people with disabilities are treated. This is another reason of why I want to be an Occupational therapist- I want to be able to bring joy to those who are hurt by the loss of function.
Side Notes: It fascinated me to know how many people had pet fish.
We ended our day with Health Policy Research so our team finished up adding everything on our slides!
