Last clinical day

First off, I would like to thank Sarah for dedicating her time and effort for making our clinical days happen. Without Sarah, I would not know the "behind the scenes" of an occupational therapist. I can't imagine trying to reach out all over the hospital to schedule in clinical days for over 50 students. Thank you so much Sarah for providing us with this experience and for all the hard work you do to better our education. Your work does not go unnoticed.

Today is my last day shadowing and I spent it at Better Beginnings again. Just like the last time, I had a wonderful day. I was even happier when I realized that I get to see all the same patients again. I love the aspect of patient and provider relationships that are built here. Jenna is able to see these patients every week and is able to see them grow.

Today, we did activities with sand, water, swings, and shaving cream. With each child, we had to learn what worked for them best and which activity they wanted to play with. Accordingly, their therapies would work around it. I came across some outstanding kiddos and today is what made me seriously consider pediatrics. I was able to take a tour around the office and the environment feels fun, safe, and lovable. There is an indoor gym with activities like a swings, a tiny slide, and sensory obstacles which aid in the children's therapies. Shadowing different places has provided me with insight on how best practices and treatment approaches may vary. I love that OT's are able to make up fun therapies on the fly and still impact the patient tremendously. It amazes me how unique some of the activities can be.

I really enjoyed my time at Better Beginnings and hope to go back soon!
