Last IPM day

This morning we started out with the last IMP case that was introduced by the M2's. It was a case that revolved around the nerves that run through your arms. After analyzing our patient, we came to terms that the patient had carpal tunnel. The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway surrounded by bones and ligaments on the palm side of your hand. When the median nerve is compressed, the symptoms can include numbness, tingling and weakness in the hand and arm.

After learning about these nerves, we headed over to the SIM center where Anne helped us understand it more. We went over different techniques on our practice patient, Lindsay, and concluded that she had a winged scapula. A winged scapula (scapula alata) is a skeletal medical condition in which the shoulder blade protrudes from a person's back in an abnormal position. In rare conditions it has the potential to lead to limited functional activity in the upper extremity to which it is adjacent. Many times, a winged scapula can be formed due to car accidents. I actually do have a winged scapula from my car accident back in September.

After going over all the techniques used to determine the cause of nerve pain, we headed over to room 105 where we were on applications. Since I am not applying this cycle, I worked on my WIX pages and tried to brain storm more ideas for my personal statement.
